I was really intrepid about doing a James Brown diary. I revere James Brown. He is The Godfather of Soul. James was a genius who launched a genre. His influence is far and wide, everyone from Jimi Hendrix to Led Zeppelin took queues from James Brown. We were watching "Get On Up" and there is a scene where James is pressing the band to do things his way. He goes around the room asking each band member what instrument they are holding. It doesn't matter whether you are holding a saxophone, trombone or guitar, the correct answer is "a drum". That's when I knew I could to this diary, because I understood what James was saying.
There are plenty of live cuts, because James Brown, the hardest working man in show business, has to be seen to understand the charismatic splendor that is James Brown.
