This will be short. It occured to me that the technology needed to fix an oil leak thousands of feet below water is beyond our ability as a civilization. Sadly the Gulf ecosystem will bear the catatrophic cost of this yawning gap between our ability to exploit fossil fuels and our inability to fix errors at the extreme range of our machinery. It's clear that this gap is completely unbridgable and the results of error are so sickening that they cannot be tolerated. I'm looking at a windfarm in Illinois right now and I feel like Sancho Panza ( a peon) watching Don Quixote ( the government) break his Lance on a sail.
It's time to force the Democrats to respond to demands for an outright ban on new exploration of undersea oil deposits in US waters. It's their juristiction. Their responsiblity to protect those waters so they can be fished and used for productive purposes. The Democrats need to grow a spine and call an end to such explorations in waters they control. It's utter madness to risk the ecology of waters that otherwise provide food to people. It's time for the faithful Sancho Panza's of the world to stop their deluded leaders before the damage is truly irreversible. We might be contemptible peasants but the land and the water belong to the peasants even if the lords think they own us. Push for the Democratic party to ban new offshore drilling. It's unsafe at any depth!
